SKYLER LOYD

My name is Jacob Walter Lacey, I write and preform under the name Skyler Loyd.

Creating music over the years has led me through a journey of sonic discovery, where I found myself drawn towards cinematic and ambient soundscapes. Growing up, I was captivated by the emotional power of music—particularly the way it could tell a story without words. I started learning the cello at a young age, eventually moving to violin and piano, immersing myself in compositions that moved between light and darkness, inspired by the dramatic energy of nature and life’s raw moments.

At 16, I released my first body of music, an EP titled 5 AM in June 2017, and I've been dedicated to building my musical portfolio ever since. By 2023, I had written over 100 songs, ranging from collaborations and film compositions to my own releases.

In 2020, I released The Earth Opened Wide, a deeply personal project that dealt with my battles with depression and my diagnosis of clinical depression. My work has always drawn from raw, unfiltered emotions, giving voice to the things we often struggle to articulate. As an actor, I also bring a unique perspective to composing music for film, having experience both in front of and behind the camera.

As an actor, I’ve always been drawn to the deep connection of telling stories. Acting and composing go hand in hand for me. Honoring a director’s vision and understanding the intricate layers of storytelling is a beautiful process. Whether creating a soundtrack or crafting a character's performance, I believe understanding the vision is the first step to creating something truly impactful.

Whether through live performances or studio work, my aim has always been to create experiences that resonate with listeners on an emotional level.
